With sponsorship from Global Fund to End Modern Slavery, Diginex is developing a proof of concept for the de-anonymization of cryptocurrency transactions linked to Online Sexual Exploitation of Children (OSEC) and Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM).
While perpetrators have been caught using traditional payment systems for OSEC transactions, cryptocurrency is a frontier used by perpetrators in an attempt to hide their engagement in OSEC.
This intervention aims to shine a light on use of cryptocurrency to facilitate human trafficking and turn illicit financial flows against traffickers giving them nowhere to hide. In particular, the project focuses on OSEC in the Philippines, an unfortunately known hot spot, by European perpetrators.
Starting with estimates on cryptocurrency flows in OSEC, which is currently an under studied area with very little data, the project will also aim to identify drivers and trends to inform anti-money laundering policy and give authorities and other stakeholders know-how, tools, and mechanisms to combat OSEC.
